Circle of Life Care Earns National “Excellence in Care” Distinction from Alzheimer’s Foundation of America

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) announced that Circle of Life Alzheimer’s Homes, in Prescott, AZ, has been named a national “Excellence in Care (EIC) Dementia Care Program of Distinction.” Dementia care settings are eligible to achieve this national recognition after successfully undergoing an extensive evaluation of staff, procedures, and environment, ensuring best practices in dementia care. Circle of Life is the only care setting in Arizona currently designated as an EIC site. Read on!

“Earning AFA’s Excellence in Care designation means that Circle of Life has met a national standard of excellence in dementia care. Their commitment to person-centered care, building meaningful relationships, and helping individuals with dementia live with a high quality of life is impressive,” said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud to recognize them with the Excellence in Care distinction.”

To earn this distinction, EIC sites must meet certain standards set forth by AFA focusing on the following three areas: facilitating meaningful living, promoting safety and security in the environment, and overall health and wellness of the care community being serviced. Assisted living residences, skilled nursing facilities, continuing care residential communities, adult day programs, group homes, and senior centers that provide care to individuals living with dementia are eligible to participate in AFA’s Excellence in Care Dementia Care Program of Distinction.

Susan Wielechowski, Founder of Circle of Life, said, “I am so proud of our highly qualified caregivers who bring their selflessness and uniqueness to our residents and families. If it were not for our 24/7 facility: Nurse Practitioner, Jessica Holman FNP-C; Social Worker -Sydney Wielechowski, BSW; Caregiver Liaison - Brett Zigler, ALM; and Marketer - Gibert Olwine, BS, Circle of Life would not be as accomplished in helping the hundreds of residents afflicted with this devastating disease with dignity, compassion and love.”

Circle of Life provides assisted living residences for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia-related illnesses. Each of their seven homes in the Prescott, the Verde Valley, and Flagstaff areas are limited to five seven five residents that live together with their certified caregivers. They provide direct, personalized care, meal preparation, respite care, and more. They devote time for reminiscing, music therapy, cooking, walks, or just companionship. Circle of Life prioritizes person-centered care in smaller group settings where the caregiver to resident ratio in the homes is approximately 1:5, allowing them to build more meaningful relationships.
